To my brothers who sacrificed their lives for the land

A 16 Year Old's Response

To my brothers who sacrificed their lives for the land   ...we call our home

By: Duvie Kaufman

Everyday is a rollercoaster with many ups and downs,
Are they dead or alive? Their blood dripping to the ground.

My brothers' innocent blood is being spilled,
Please don't take them; please don't say they were killed.

Many strangers are praying for life,
For we all have one thing in common, one nation, one strife.

The two years we worried were like a lifetime filled with horror,
Everyday such a challenge for me, my brothers, and father.

This land we see and walk you fought for with all your soul,
The absence of your smile burns in my heart a deep black hole.

Something great is lacking from our precious world,
Your joy and your laughter, your care for every pearl.

You handled every problem with delicate pure hands,
You died protecting us and defending our holy land.

Your absence from this world makes my heart decay,
7/16/08, י'ד תמוז, I'll never forget that day.

The truth has been revealed, your coffins have arrived,
Why were you the ones to perish, the ones that had to die?

It must be the 'רצון ד to take you from me,
He wanted your joy and courage, that’s what he needs me to see.

May your נשמות live on in the place where צדיקים live,
You inspire us to be like you, don't take but rather give.

You give us the strength to wait until the end of days,
Where we will greet you again as you shine like the Sun's most beautiful rays.
